Assistant Coach
Events: Girls' Sprints/Relays
Experience: former sprinter/long jumper for 10 years in Southern California. As a high school junior, competing alone as a team of one with her Dad as coach, a freakish set of events led to an unusual Southern Section Meet of Champions. With 1st’s in the 200 and long jump and a 2nd in the 100, she earned enough points to win the Southern Section’s team championship. The following year she enjoyed competing in local, state and international meets. Her final year of track was at USC where a back injury ended her running days. Received a B.A. at USC and a Masters in Public Health at UCLA. When her children were young and wanted to run, there wasn’t an organized program or coaching available in San Luis Obispo where their family lived for 12 years. She volunteered to help out and has loved coaching ever since. Finishing USA Track & Field’s Level 1 certification, she began coaching high school track 11 years ago, 10 of which have been at, what she considers the best program around, SRV.
Quote:“Track is not as much about conquering the athlete in the next lane as it is in conquering the limits one sets on oneself. The best athletic accomplishments come in competing against one’s best times so far (PRs), competing against the temptations to just do enough to get by instead of pushing hard to the next level, & competing against the voice that says that’s as good as you’re ever going to be.”

Quote:"In the end, it's extra effort that separates a winner from second place. But winning takes a lot more that that, too. It starts with complete command of the fundamentals. Then it takes desire, determination, discipline, and self-sacrifice. And finally, it takes a great deal of love, fairness and respect for your fellow man. Put all these together, and even if you don't win, how can you lose?"- Jesse Owens
